‘The Secret Keeper’ by Kate Morton

'The Secret Keeper' by Kate Morton

‘Life could be cruel enough these days without the truth making it worse.’

I am an avid fan of Kate Morton. I have read all the books she has published to date, and enjoyed each one in turn. ‘The Secret Keeper’, however, takes the ‘best of the best’ cake.

The plot twists in this, her newest tale, were more belly-dropping than a roller coaster, and more fun. As I sat upon the train reading this novel, fellow commuters sat and stared as I would routinely exclaim, ‘No. No! Oh, my! No, sh*t. No way!!

Kate, you floored me. You floored me – a girl who read the last couple of pages first (as I always do) – and still, still you took away my breath. Brava, Kate darling, brava. If I could erase my memory and read about Dorothy and Vivien and Jimmy and Laurel all over again, and feel that astounding shock as the plot unfolded, I would.

So, my loyal blog readers, I don’t know if I really need to say much more. What else is there to say besides the above. If this doesn’t make you read her immaculately articulated book, well then, nothing will. And as Ms. Morton says in the course of her tale:

‘It’s a terrible thing, isn’t it, the way we throw people away?’

Friends, don’t be terrible – don’t throw this opportunity away. Put this book on your Christmas list, download it for your Kindle, visit your closest library, or borrow it from a friend … just read it. And then come back here and share in my awe and admiration.
