Giveaway: 'There Once Lived a Girl Who Seduced Her Sister's Husband, and He Hanged Himself: Love Stories' by Ludmilla PetrushevskayaWelcome to HerLiterarySalon.com‘s first giveaway hosted by our friends at Penguin Books (@penguinUSA)!

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, this unique collection of stories is bound to thrill your mind and brighten your day – especially if you are not a fan of Cupid. Entering is easy, and free books are fun. The New York Times Book review states:

‘This exquisite collection [is] vital, eerie and freighted with the moral messages that attend all cautionary tales.’

SYNOPSIS: ‘THERE ONCE LIVED A GIRL …’ is made up of seventeen fables of marriage, courtship, sex, and love: the office one-night stand that creates a baby; the awkward tryst in a communal apartment; the responsible father chased away from his family by an insane and jealous wife; and the unremarkable and predictable souls who find they have drifted inevitably into union. Romance, violence, infidelity, tenderness—Petrushevskaya has compiled all of those great narrative traditions into an elegant and macabre collection of stories that show just why she is Russia’s preeminent contemporary fiction writer.’

  1. I’m totally ambivalent about Valentine’s Day – although I liked it more when I was little and it meant candy and presents from my parents!
